{"id":1589,"date":"2025-05-09T14:16:21","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T14:16:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thetoptenwebhosts.com\/?p=1589"},"modified":"2025-05-13T13:42:43","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T13:42:43","slug":"freed-student-columbia-inciting-violence-with-response-to-pro-palestinian-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thetoptenwebhosts.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/09\/freed-student-columbia-inciting-violence-with-response-to-pro-palestinian-protest\/","title":{"rendered":"Freed student: Columbia inciting violence with response to pro-Palestinian protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Columbia University student and Palestinian activist Mohsen Mahdawi said Columbia\u2019s response to pro-Palestinian protesters storming the library was inciting more violence. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Columbia <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/education\/5289634-pro-palestinian-activists-columbia-university-demonstration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called in the New York Police Department<\/a> and arrested 80 students after they reportedly stormed the school\u2019s library, injured two employees, carved \u201cColumbia will burn\u201d into framed pictures and would not leave or identify themselves after they were asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cColumbia University is participating in the destruction of the democratic system,\u201d Mahdawi said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mohsen-mahdawi-columbia-protest-arrest-vermont-a4d66d898ca5f58f0352c4adf2174e7b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview with The Associated Press<\/a>. \u201cThey are supporting the initiatives and the agenda of the Trump administration, and they are punishing and torturing their students.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The freed student said Columbia is inciting violence instead of rising to the moment to be a \u201cbeacon of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mahdawi was recently released on bail after the Trump administration arrested him during his naturalization interview to become a U.S. citizen.<\/p>\n<p>He is the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/5280892-columbia-student-mohsen-mahdawi-release-victory-op-ed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first student to be released<\/a> after being arrested by federal authorities amid President Trump\u2019s crackdown on high-profile pro-Palestinian activists on campuses. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mahdawi said those still held in detention should \u201cstay positive and don\u2019t let this injustice shake your belief in the inevitability of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Detained Tufts University student R\u00fcmeysa \u00d6zt\u00fcrk recently <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/5287510-appeals-court-detained-tufts-student-rumeysa-ozturk-vermont-louisiana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saw a win<\/a> as a federal appeals court denied the Trump administration\u2019s appeal to keep \u00d6zt\u00fcrk\u00a0in Louisiana after another judge ordered she be transferred to Vermont.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are working hard.
