A federal judge said Wednesday the Trump administration’s attempt<\/a> to deport Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder and former pro-Palestinian activist at Columbia University, is likely unconstitutional.<\/p>\n \u201c[T]he Court provides its conclusion: the Petitioner is likely to succeed on the merits of this unconstitutional vagueness argument,\u201d District Judge Michael Farbiarz\u00a0wrote, chastising the government\u2019s justification that Khalil could pose a threat to the foreign policy<\/a> of the U.S.\u00a0<\/p>\n But Farbiarz still did not order Khalil\u2019s release because he does not believe Khalil\u2019s lawyers have properly responded to the government’s allegations that he did not disclose<\/a> all of his former work on his permanent residency application.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThe Petitioner\u2019s legal briefs still make no substantial argument as to the failure-to-disclose claim \u2014 even as lengthy supplemental briefs have been filed,\u201d he wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n The judge said he will consider Khalil\u2019s request for a release as additional information is provided. \u00a0<\/p>\n
