Harvard College has released admissions data for the class of 2029 showing a decrease in Black and Hispanic students while the share of Asian American students at the university has gone up.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The class of 2029 has 11.5 percent Black students, 11 percent Hispanic and 41 percent Asian American.\u00a0In the class of 2028, 14 percent of students were Black, 16 percent were\u00a0Hispanic\u00a0and 37 percent were Asian American.<\/p>\n
For Black students, the slide has been consistent since the 2023 Supreme Court decision<\/a> that outlawed affirmative action in higher education. Before the decision, Black students made up 18 percent of Harvard’s student population.<\/p>\n Hispanic students\u00a0saw\u00a0an increase in student population after the court\u2019s decision before the decrease in this year\u2019s admission data.<\/p>\n Harvard did not release demographic data for white students.<\/p>\n Experts had worried the Supreme Court decision would disadvantage certain student\u00a0groups,\u00a0while the Trump administration has accused universities of still not following the high court\u2019s ruling<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n And Harvard has been one of President Trump\u2019s main targets.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Trump administration pulled billions of dollars in funding<\/a> and\u00a0attempted\u00a0to block Harvard\u2019s enrollment of international students, both moves ruled illegal by the courts.\u00a0<\/p>\n The number of\u00a0international\u00a0students has also gone down from 16 percent to 15 percent.\u00a0<\/p>\n
